Happy Howloween! Meet the Monster High Creeproductions

Miss out the first time around? Never fear, Monster High “Creeproductions” are here!

In 2010, Mattel’s Monster High doll series completely revolutionized the doll industry and continues to be one of their most popular toy franchises to this day. Since then, the ghouls have received a few make overs and reincarnations as well as new friends by way of the introduction of new characters. Their soaring popularity also resulted in a plethora of merchandise, eight seasons of the animated show, and seven movies. Now that most of their original fanbase is beginning to reach adulthood, Mattel made some wise production decisions to accommodate them in a few new, exciting ways.

First up was a new high-end version of their dolls, the Haunt Couture series (see our article about them here). Next was a new line of beautiful reproductions of the original dolls, cleverly-named Creeproductions.

On the surface, these reproductions look just like their predecessors. However, there are a few slight differences in each doll, just subtle enough to enhance the doll without looking like a glaring difference. This article outlines those differences as a handy reference not only for you, the contemporary reader, but also for those of you reading this in the future, trying to figure out of that ‘2010 Draculaura’ you found so cheap on eBay is really an original or a reproduction!

Lagoona Blue

Outfit

The scale detail on her top and hairpiece are more defined and pronounced. There is now a protective plastic jacket under her top as well.

Face

Her eye makeup is a lighter shade of purple and less shimmery. Her eyes are brighter green and closer together, making her look a less ‘fishlike’ in our opinion.

Hair and Body

Her hair has a little more of a windblown look to it. There are more blue streaks in her bangs. The fins on the backs of her legs are a slightly darker shade of blue. Her back is stamped with “Mattel” instead of “Mattel Inc.” like her predecessor.

Accessories

Her gold jewelry has more of a shimmer to it. The handle of the fishbowl purse is also more shimmery. It is also a darker shade of blue like her leg fins.

Draculaura

Outfit

The buttons on her jacket are slightly more yellowed. Her boots are a different shade of pink (we would describe the 2010 boots as peach-pink while the 2022 version are more bubblegum-pink).

Face

Bigger, lighter, and less shimmery. The heart marking below her left eye is higher up and slightly darker pink. Her fangs are less exaggerated and look a little more like real fangs versus painted-on fangs.

Hair and Body

Her hair is longer and finer. The pink highlights are more evenly distributed throughout the hair versus the previous ‘chunky highlights’ look that was popular in the early 2000’s. Her skin has the same kind of bubblegum-pink hue to it that her boots do. Her back is stamped with “Mattel” instead of “Mattel Inc.” like her predecessor.

Accessories

Earrings are white plastic now instead of painted white plastic. Necklace is a lighter bubblegum pink. The skull on her umbrella is slightly larger. Her tights are longer and extend past her boot tops.

Frankie Stein

Outfit

Her dress is slightly shorter and the colors of the stripes of brighter.

Face

Her eyebrows are raised higher on her forehead and her eyeshadow is a darker shade of purple.

Hair and Body

Her hair is longer and thinner. The stitches on her skin are closer together on each seam. Her lipstick is a brighter shade of red. Her back is stamped with “Mattel” instead of “Mattel Inc.” like her predecessor.

Accessories

Her chain belt is completely silver. The skull on her tie, the chains on her earrings and her bracelet are a darker shade of silver.

Clawdeen Wolf

Outfit

Her top is a darker shade of pink and her skirt is made of a shinier material. The socks go up higher on her legs and the mesh is smaller.

Face

Her eyebrows are less arched which makes her look less sinister. Her eye makeup is a darker shade of purple with less sparkles. Her fangs are smaller.

Hair and Body

Her hair is much longer and wild-looking, like a mane. Her back is stamped with “Mattel” instead of “Mattel Inc.” like her predecessor.

Accessories

Her boots have black soles and the buckles are a lighter shade of gold. Her earrings are also a lighter shade of gold. The pendant on her necklace is a lighter shade of purple. The zippers on her purse are smaller and the gold accents are lighter color.
